With this track, Ras Kimono—who identifies as a Rastafarian—spoke truth to power. “Kimono Dem Wan” served as a rallying cry during a period when many African nations were struggling with the effects of colonialism and the struggle for true independence. He urged countries like South Africa, Namibia, and Nigeria to stand up and demand their freedom from injustice and persecution.
