Mandatory for All Aron Helps Workers
Introduction
As an Aron Helps worker, employers place a great deal of trust in you. You may have access to their homes, children, elderly relatives, business information, schedules, passwords, valuables, and private conversations.
Protecting this information is not just good manners—it is a professional and ethical responsibility.
This course teaches you how to maintain confidentiality, respect privacy, use technology responsibly, and establish healthy professional boundaries.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Understand confidentiality and why it matters.
- Respect client privacy.
- Protect sensitive information.
- Use social media responsibly.
- Maintain professional boundaries.
- Handle gifts and personal requests ethically.
- Practise good digital security.
Lesson 1: What is Confidentiality?
Confidentiality means keeping private information private.
During your work, you may learn about:
- Family matters.
- Financial information.
- Medical conditions.
- Business activities.
- Home security arrangements.
- Travel plans.
- Children’s schools and routines.
- Personal phone numbers and addresses.
This information belongs to the employer—not to you.
Never share confidential information without permission or unless required by law or to protect someone’s immediate safety.
Lesson 2: Respecting Privacy
Everyone deserves privacy.
Always respect:
✔ Bedrooms.
✔ Bathrooms.
✔ Personal documents.
✔ Mobile phones.
✔ Laptops.
✔ Diaries.
✔ Mail and parcels.
Never:
❌ Open drawers without permission.
❌ Read personal documents.
❌ Search through belongings.
❌ Use an employer’s phone or computer without authorisation.
Privacy builds trust.
Lesson 3: Social Media Responsibility
Social media can easily damage trust.
Never post:
- Photos of your employer’s home.
- Pictures of children in your care without explicit permission.
- Videos taken during work.
- Employer conversations.
- Employer vehicles.
- Expensive possessions.
- Client locations in real time.
Even if names are removed, people may still recognise the family or location.
Always ask for permission before sharing any work-related content.
Lesson 4: Photography & Video Recording
Some employers may ask you to:
- Take photos of completed work.
- Record children’s activities.
- Capture household inventory.
Only do this:
✔ For work purposes.
✔ With the employer’s approval.
Delete work-related photos from your personal device when instructed or once they are no longer needed, following the employer’s policy.
Never keep photos as personal memories or share them with others.
Lesson 5: Professional Boundaries
Professional boundaries protect both workers and employers.
Maintain appropriate boundaries by:
✔ Being friendly but professional.
✔ Respecting personal space.
✔ Avoiding inappropriate jokes or comments.
✔ Politely declining requests that fall outside agreed responsibilities if necessary.
Avoid becoming overly involved in family disputes or personal matters unless your role specifically requires support.
Lesson 6: Gifts, Loans & Personal Requests
Employers may occasionally offer gifts as appreciation.
Small tokens of appreciation may be acceptable if they comply with company policy and do not influence your professional judgement.
However:
Never:
❌ Borrow money from employers.
❌ Lend money to employers.
❌ Ask employers for personal financial assistance.
❌ Pressure employers for gifts.
If you are unsure whether accepting a gift is appropriate, discuss it with your employer or Aron Helps support.
Lesson 7: Digital Safety
Technology is part of modern work.
Protect yourself and your employer by:
✔ Using strong passwords.
✔ Logging out of shared devices.
✔ Keeping work information secure.
✔ Reporting suspicious emails or messages.
✔ Protecting confidential documents.
Never:
❌ Share passwords.
❌ Save employer passwords on your personal device without permission.
❌ Forward confidential documents.
❌ Install software on employer devices without approval.
Lesson 8: Children’s Privacy
Children deserve extra protection.
Always:
✔ Respect their dignity.
✔ Avoid posting their photos online.
✔ Keep school information confidential.
✔ Protect their medical information.
✔ Respect family parenting choices.
Parents should always decide what information about their children is shared publicly.
Lesson 9: Handling Sensitive Conversations
Sometimes employers discuss private matters nearby.
Professional workers:
✔ Continue working discreetly.
✔ Avoid listening intentionally.
✔ Never repeat private conversations.
If someone asks:
“What do your employers usually talk about?”
A professional response is:
“I’m sorry, but I don’t discuss my employers’ private matters.”
Lesson 10: Protecting Your Own Privacy
Professional boundaries work both ways.
You also have the right to privacy.
You are not required to share unnecessary personal information about:
- Your family.
- Your finances.
- Your relationships.
- Your personal passwords.
- Your social media accounts.
Maintain respectful boundaries while remaining professional.
Real-Life Scenario
Joy works as a nanny for a well-known business executive.
One afternoon, a friend notices a photograph on Joy’s phone showing the family’s beautiful living room and asks to see more pictures of the house.
Joy politely explains that the photos were taken only for work purposes with the employer’s permission and are private. She refuses to share them and deletes them after they are no longer needed.
Her professionalism protects the employer’s privacy and strengthens their trust in her.
